Why Mud Temperature Control is Critical
In HPHT wells temperature control of drilling mud is critical but difficult to achieve with common mud cooling techniques. Problems arising from overheated mud fluids include
- Equipment failure due to broken seals
- Unstable mud properties leading to incorrect measurements with MWD and LWD tools
- Serious safety risks when oil-based fluids exceed its flash point.
Mud Coolers: An Elegant Solution
The Sovonex™ mud cooler solves all these problems. Designed around one or several plate heat exchangers, our cooling system transfers excess heat from the mud fast and efficiently.
The plate heat exchangers are designed to ASME pressure vessel standards and made from titanium for application in even the most corrosive environments.
To guarantee maximum performance, each mud cooling system is tailor-made based on a few common process parameters provided by the customer.
High Performance With A Small Footprint
Much thought has been given to make the Sovonex™ mud cooler as compact as possible. Our system is skid-mounted with sophisticated piping and valves fitted in a space-saving layout. This makes transportation and installation easy and fast and caters to space constraints often imposed on mobile drilling rigs.
Due to their modular design, Sovonex™ mud coolers can be operated in parallel for even higher efficiency. This mode of operation is particularly advantageous on deep well drilling rigs where mud temperatures can get out of control quickly.
